2020 CFA Society Poland Annual Conference held online in English between 21 and 23 October will feature presentation and e-panel discussions with portfolio managers, fintech experts and innovation specialists. This year thanks to our great speakers we will focus on trends and strategies in the 3rd decade of innovative finance practices.

Machine Learning Seminar by Sri Krishnamurthy, CFA, CAP. The use of data science and machine learning in the investment industry is increasing. Financial firms are using artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to augment traditional investment decision making. In this course, we aim to bring clarity on how AI and machine learning are revolutionizing financial services. We will introduce key concepts and, through examples and case studies, will illustrate the role of machine learning, data science techniques, and AI in the investment industry. In this series, we will provide an intuitive understanding to machine learning with just enough mathematics and basic statistics.

Sri has more than 15 years of experience in analytics, quantitative analysis, statistical modeling and designing large-scale applications. Prior to starting QuantUniversity, Sri has worked at Citigroup, Endeca, MathWorks and with more than 25 customers in the financial services and energy industries. He has trained more than 1000 students in quantitative methods, analytics and big data in the industry and at Babson College, Northeastern University and Hult International Business School. Jerome S. Engel

Professor Jerome S. Engel is an internationally recognized expert on innovation, entrepreneurship, and venture capital, lecturing and advising business and government leaders around the world. His research and publications explore innovation ecosystems, technology commercialization, and lean innovation management practices in established and emerging enterprises. Professor Engel joined the faculty of the University of California at Berkeley in 1991, after a successful business career, to found the Lester Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, where he currently serves as Senior Fellow and Founding Executive Director Emeritus. He is a leader in the Lean Innovation movement, founding National Faculty Director of the National Science Foundations’ I-Corps, a US government program that develops entrepreneurial technology commercialization teams at leading universities across the United States. He has been the founding General Partner of two successful venture capital funds, is an active Angel investor, and a member of the Investment Advisory Boards to several international venture funds. Professor Engel is an Adjunct Professor Emeritus at the Haas School of Business and instructs in both the School's MBA and Executive Education programs, specializing in Entrepreneurship, Corporate Innovation, New Venture Finance, and Venture Capital. He serves on the Boards of Directors and Advisory Boards of several entrepreneurial ventures, venture capital firms, universities and innovation centers around the world. An author and frequent speaker, he has been cited in the Wall Street Journal, National Public Radio and other global media. Professor Engel’s awards and recognitions include the National Collegiate Inventors and Innovators Alliance Lifetime Educational Achievement Award, the Global Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centers Award for Outstanding Contributions to Advance the Discipline of Entrepreneurship, among others. His most recent research and publications focus on the nature in innovation processes in firms, communities and global networks. Professor Engel’s book, Clusters of Innovation: Entrepreneurial engines of economic growth around the world explores the workings of entrepreneurial economies.
Bartosz Pawłowski, CFA

mBank Private Banking

Bartosz Pawłowski, CFA is the Chief Investment Officer of mBank Private Banking where he focuses on asset allocation for both discretionary asset management and investment advisory with particular emphasis on thematic investing and ESG. Previously he spent almost 10 years in London, initially as Global Head of Emerging Markets Strategy at BNP Paribas and then as a Portfolio Manager at Finisterre Capital, an EM-oriented macro hedge fund. Bartosz holds M.A. in Economics from Warsaw School of Economics and is a CFA Charterholder. Since 2020 he is Vice-President of CFA Society Poland. In co-operation with CFA Society Poland, Bartosz introduced CFA Institute Statement of Investor Rights to mBank Private Banking. mBank was the first institution in Poland to adopt and use it when dealing with clients. Bartosz was also a judge during the last two editions of CFA Research Challenge.
Erhard Radatz

Portfolio Manager

Erhard Radatz joined Invesco in August 2017 as a portfolio manager focusing on balanced accounts and capital protected products. In 2020, he joined the ESG sub-group of Invesco Quantitative Strategies focusing on developing the integration of ESG criteria into the Factor-based process. He started his career as a portfolio manager in Deutsche Asset Management’s institutional Multi Asset and Risk Overlay team. Erhard holds a Master’s degree in Theoretical Physics from the Humboldt University Berlin.
Tomasz Kuciński, CFA

Asset Manager

Tomasz Kuciński, CFA is Asset Manager at Asset Management Department (mBank) since 2017. He is responsible for managing wealth management clients’ equity portfolios and a part of of the strategic investment committee, deciding on combined asset management and investment advisory asset allocation. A founder of the equity strategy “Megatrends” based purely on ETFs. Nominated in the asset management rising stars survey held among other asset managers in 2017 by "Parkiet" magazine. Before Tomasz Kuciński was an Analyst at Equity Research Department and BZ WBK Brokerage (Equity Research Department). He has started his career in Noble Securities (first intership and then an analyst). He graduated Warsaw School of Economics. The CFA charterholder since 2016.
Alexander Gunz

Alexander Gunz is a Fund Manager at Heptagon Capital, having joined in January 2011. His primary responsibility is managing the Heptagon Future Trends strategy. Along with regular thematic articles, Alex also produces the Future Trends blog and writes Heptagon’s monthly View From The Top macro commentary. Alex started his investment career in 1997. Prior to joining Heptagon, he held senior roles at J.P. Morgan and Friedman Billings and Ramsey, after earlier positions at Hoare Govett and Credit Suisse, where he became a top-ranked analyst. Alex has a BA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Worcester College, University of Oxford and a Master’s in English Literature from Queen Mary College, University of London. Alex also has an Honours Diploma in Wine and is a published novelist.
Ákos Szalay

Ákos Szalay has worked at FHB Bank’s investment services product development before joining Dorsum’s Innovation Team in 2018. Running under the nickname “Mr. Simplicity” at Dorsum, his main vision is creating simple and easy-to-use solutions for complicated business workflows. Ákos is responsible for the in-house Investment Academy, regularly lecturing both experts and developers about investment products and practices.
William de Gale, FCA, CFA

Lead Portfolio Manager

He spent 20 years at BlackRock and its predecessor companies (Mercury & Merrill Lynch)
covering the technology sector. A portfolio manager since 2000, from 2008 to 2017 he was
the sole PM for BlackRock’s offshore global technology fund, achieving top decile
performance. Prior to BlackRock, William served in the British Army. He had already started his career in finance by previously qualifying as a Chartered Accountant with Coopers & Lybrand. This is key to his success as a technology investor: his deep understanding of accounting and the financial measures of value creation enable him to focus on finding business models that create long-term investor value from technology and innovation.
Piotr Dereń

Data Scientist

Piotr Dereń is a data scientist at UBS Evidence Lab, specializing in natural language processing and survey analysis. Prior to his employment at UBS, Piotr has studied High-Energy Physics and Quantum Field Theory at RWTH Aachen, and holds an engineering degree in Technical Physics from AGH.
Marek Dudka

Geospatial Business Analyst

Marek Dudka is a Geospatial Business Analyst at UBS-BSC Krakow. He currently works as a Solution Architect at UBS Evidence Lab within the Healthcare and Industrial sectors. He leads brainstorming of new project ideas and oversees project design and execution to provide valuable insights and evidence for various investment debates. Marek has Master's Degree in Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems from University of Wisconsin-Madison, as well as MSc degree in agriculture and crop protection from Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW). Throughout his career he worked as an entrepreneur, researcher, instructor, GIS consultant and self-employed in the areas related to geographic information and location-based technologies for various applications, including: environmental studies, agriculture, natural resources, national security, urban planning, and business. Marek is a co-inventor of patented technology for Soil and Topography Surveying.
Prof. Krzysztof Jajuga

President of CFA Society Poland, Professor of Economic Sciences at the Wroclaw University of Economics (title given by the President of Poland in 1992), Head of Finance Management Institute. He is member in scientific and professional organizations: Member of Executive Board of Committee of Statistics and Econometrics of Polish Academy of Sciences, Member of Executive Board of Committee of Financial Sciences of Polish Academy of Sciences , Member of Executive Board of Committee of Economic Sciences of Polish Academy of Sciences. His research interests are: financial markets and instruments, risk management, corporate finance, real estate, insurance and quantitative methods (econometrics, statistics).He was a member of the Scientific Council of the National Bank of Poland and a member of the Supervisory Board of Warsaw Stock Exchange.
